Description

Hand-carved wooden horse believed to date to approximately 1850, retaining its original worn polychrome surface with remnants of red, white, and black paint. The figure is constructed from multiple dovetailed joined sections with a carved head, raised foreleg, and horsehair tail, displaying exceptional folk-art character and an untouched, naturally aged patina. The horse is unsigned and unmarked, with no visible maker’s marks or labels. It has remained in its original weathered condition and has not been restored or repainted. It is currently displayed on a later custom metal stand for stability and presentation. Based on its construction, paint, and overall craftsmanship, it is believed to be an authentic mid-19th-century folk art carving. The exact origin is unknown, though it may represent American or Northern European folk art traditions. Dimensions: 12″ H x 20″ L
