Description
This is a framed, multi-colored striped painting by Gene Davis. Gene B. Davis (1920 – 1985) worked in the District Of Columbia and was known especially for his paintings of vertical stripes of color and was among the most prominent members of the Washington Color School. The work at auction is very representative of his best work. It is a large acrylic painting on canvas of colorful vertical stripes repeating particular colors to create a sense of rhythm and repetition with variations. Gene Davis, a painter associated with the Washington Color School of Painters, was a self-taught artist whose early work represented several phases of experimentation including Abstract Expressionism. Provenance: Initially from the Deudney estate (name appears in one of the corner wood joints) in Washington DC to NH collector who bought it from Massachusetts Museum. Dimensions: 52″ x 121.5″
