Description

A Gestural abstract painting, grey with tones of reddish pink with great texture. Elyssa Rundle (1932 – 1994) worked in New York and Pennsylvania and is known for Gestural abstract painting (Vincent van Gogh was also known for Gestural techniques). She opened a studio on West 23rd Street in New York City and became a member of the New York School of Gestural Abstract Expressionism. Rundle took bolder risks in her approach to color, composition and proportion, encouraged by the interaction with fellow artists and feed-back by noted art critics of her time including supporters Clem Greenburg and John Russell. Three years after her death, in 1997, her collection of work won a grant from the Judith Rothschild Foundation, established for the purpose of bringing recognition to highly talented, deceased artists. The Rothschild Grant helped create an inventory of the collection, and an exhibit and catalogue called: The Spirit of the Paint, by the Berman Museum. This artwork is from that collection. Dimensions: 66″ x 52″
