Description
This is an early framed oil on canvas piece by Hassam of “Kids Watching The Artist In Old Boston”. Childe (Frederick) Hassam (1859 – 1935) worked in New York and Massachusetts and is known for flag parades, figure and interior scene painting, and etchings. Childe Hassam became one of America’s most noted Impressionist painters, but he never labelled himself in that way asserting he was more interested in the emotional content of his paintings. Provenance: Work came from a neighbor of Hassam who gave it to an art shop on Bow Street, Portsmouth NH, and bought by Ed Weissman and then to a Portsmouth collector who held on to it for 30 years.
