Portrait of a young woman seated in a red upholstered chair, wearing an off-the-shoulder dress and layered necklaces. Dark drapery and a distant landscape with a spire form the background. The canvas bears a New York marking and handwriting on the reverse that may identify the artist and appears to include the date 1841. The inscription has not been authenticated.
