Description
Rare Original 16th Century German/English Axe of Justice Executioners Axe . This rare historical Axe has been used in the removal of limbs during and sentence of prisoner being drawn and quartered. The Axe head is stamped by the blacksmith/armorer “DR”. The head of the Axe measures approximately 12.0 inches long with a blade edge measuring 5.50 inches and a 10.50 inch neck. The overall length is 30.0 inches from haft to head. Beautiful Ornate Design typical of England or Germany. Provenance: Antique Axe Collection from a former Museum in Edinburgh Scotland.
Condition report:
Fantastic original dark patina, the wooden shaft is in excellent condition for its age but does appear it has been replaced most likely in the 19th century. The blacksmith made head of the Axe is very well made and it has a large cutting edge with many nicks.
