Framed 16th-century portrait engraving of Johannes Baptista Rosellus (Giovanni Battista Roselli), a prominent Italian jurist and professor of civil law. The Roman numeral MCCCCLXXXIX translates to the year 1489, which indicates the timeline associated with his legal prominence The phrase “Io. Baptista Rosellus Anno 1489″ is the Latin inscription found on this original copperplate engraving. The work is attributed to the famous Italian engraver Enea Vico. The portraits were published in Rome in 1566 by the well-known French engraver and publisher Antoine Lafréry (Antonio Lafreri).
