Description
Wonderfully framed Providence RI school landscape, oil on canvas, depicting trees along Palmer River with cows on the bank emptying into Narragansett Bay with sailboats in the background, circa 1885. Sold by Charles Calder (label on back), who was a prominent frame and painting dealer in the 1880s and 90s, and who sold works by Providence RI painters Edward Mitchell Bannister, George Whitaker and Charles Stetson. Signature lower left somewhat illegible/faded in background may be Bannister. Photos with AI help has the painting at 90% attributed to Bannister. Dimensions: 17″ x 26″ Image size, 28″ x 38″ Overall
