Description
Circa 1760-80 American hanger with a marked French blade and marked “ER” with an American dyed whale bone grip with brass stirrup guard. The blade is marked “Klingenthal” on the top edge of the blade. Klingenthal is known as the “Valley Of The Blade” in Alsace France. On 15 July 1730, King Louis XV issued letters of patent “for the establishment of a royal bladed weapons manufactory in Alsace, for a period of 30 years in the service of the royal troops”. The blade was most likely captured during the French and Indian War and re-manufactured by the Americans for the Revolutionary War. Dimensions: 25 7/8″ Blade, 31″ Overall
