This dated 1777 first edition of the Brion de la Tour map of the War between the English and Americans before it was re-engraved after General Burgoyne’s surrender at Saratoga to General Gates on October 17, 1777 which showed the positions of British troops. The defeat of Burgoyne led to the formal alliance between France and the United States in February 1778 and is considered the main turning point of the war. This map has been called the “Map that brought the French into the American Revolutionary War”. Louis Brion de la Tour (1743 – 1803) was the Cartographer Royal to the King of France, his official title being Ingenieur-Geographe du Roi. This map is a must have for any collector of the American Revolution. Dimensions: 30″ x 21″
