Description
Four President-signed commissions for Rear Admiral Edwin M. Shepard- one by President Andrew Johnson in 1866, one by Rutherford B. Hayes in 1878. another by Grover Cleveland in 1893 and lastly, one by William McKinley in 1901 making Shepard a Rear Admiral. Edwin Malcolm Shepard (1843 – 1904) was a rear admiral of the United States Navy, who served during the Civil War. Shepard served on the monitor Mahopac during the siege of Charleston, South Carolina, then on the steam sloop Wachusett during the capture of the Confederate privateer Florida on October 7, 1864. Shepard became the first flag officer to become a student at the Naval War College. Dimensions: 20″ x 16″
