Pair of outstanding early maple federal chairs with exceptional original paint. Nice stenciling with carved bows . A similar if not identical set is in the MET and in Centuries and Styles of The American Chair by Robert Bishop p. 273 . Most likely Massachusetts and likely painted by Robert Cowen (1768-1846). Circa late eighteen century. Dimensions: 18" Seat height 35" Overall height
Condition: Seats need to be re-holstered, structurally fine. Many surface abrasions/imperfections
