Historic Fall Auction Oct 7
Lot 73:
Description
Tall grandfather clock made by Henry Thornton (London, active 1699-1732) which belonged to Governor Hutchinson (1771-74). His belongings were confiscated at the time of the American Revolution. Thornton appears to have been a fine but relatively enigmatic maker with relatively few examples of his work surviving. This is probably due to the fact that he seemed to specialize in making clocks for the export, including the Imperial Russian Court. Martin Frost bought the clock in the early 20th century and his son, Joseph W. P. Frost, later inherited it. Dimensions: 8′ 10" Height x 20" Width.
Condition: Minor veneer loss, running condition, keeps excellent time
