Lot 36:
Description
Cornelis Dusart attributed miniature watercolor of an old gentleman peasant. Cornelis Dusart became one of the last and most celebrated pupils of Adriaen van Ostade, taking over his master’s studio after his death in 1685. Dusart made a considerable number of lively, finished watercolors of this type, undoubtedly intended for sale as independent works of art. Most of them represent the sort of peasant subjects so beloved of Ostade, but Dusart treated these subjects in a highly individual and rather more decorative manner, producing works which make a significant and original contribution to late 17th-century Dutch drawing. Partial signatures on back. Dimensions: 3.5" x 3" Image; 6.5" x 5.5" Overall
Condition: Very light staining in margin; slight chip on frame
