Description
A CT River Valley Pilgrim Century-period decorated board chest, probably Springfield, MA area. This chest, inscribed "1693" and decorated with geometric patterns of arches and lozenges, utilizes a number of differing punch types and conforms with the use of deep crease molding, rose-head nail construction and cotter-pin hinges; measures 48" long, 18" deep and 24" high. Old red painted finish with black paint on crease molding. See " The Great River Art and Society of the Connecticut River Valley, 1635-1820 " for related examples and discussion.
Condition: Wear consistent with use and age
