Description
Oil portrait on oak panel of Penitent Mary Magdalene, semi-nude with pearl earing and bracelet. Label attributed to Gortzius on frame. Geldorp Gortzius (1553-1618/9) was a Flemish Renaissance artist who was active in Germany where he distinguished himself through his portrait paintings of individuals and group portraits. There are 70 known portraits in existent today with at least three portraits of Mary Magdalene (Christies sold one in 1997 for GBP 17,250). Other portraits include a Diana, a Susanna, an Evangelist, a Venus, the History of Esther and Ahasverus and two busts of Christ and Mary. Dimensions: 22″ 18″ Image size, 30″ x 26.5″ Overall

Very good condition consistent with age There is a vertical age crack down the middle.
